Becca, the math entry for family bookkeeper is just a practical suggestion. I’ve tried to have each of my children work with me to take care of the family bill-paying and account-balancing for a few months before they graduate. It helped them see how to manage finances on a regular basis, let them experience the responsibility to make sure bill deadlines were met, and gave them a realistic view of how much it costs to support a family.
I love the idea! We had our older three take the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University course back when my DH and I took it. I hadn’t thought to have them go through our monthly process though. They’ve kept their own finances based on what they learned and manage saving/paying for their own vehicles, auto insurance, fuel, license fees, etc. I think your suggestion is even better. I’m going to discuss it with DH for future use with our two youngest. The others have jobs and are saving for higher ed./future homes of their own. We’ve never had the income to afford them allowances, so they are quite frugal. Our eldest daughter is going to learn quickbooks. I might talk to DH about her practicing it with our bills. Thanks for this encouraging hint of opportunity for older children.
OH Gone! Gone! Gone! The modules are gone! Woe! Woe! Woe!
OK, I’ve recovered now. I did have printouts from before and also found the link in the thread, so I guess I’ll live. You know, though, now that I’ve “graduated” and made it through a complete six-year rotation (!!!) I’m too stuck in my ways to do it differently I think. LOL We like the variety of the six week musicians and composers. Well, I’ll think about changing. Maybe. Although it is hard for those of us Of A Certain Age . . .
That’s right, the old stuff is still there and there is a link to those pages from some of the new pages. We won’t be updating the old guide with any of the newer materials. It’s pretty much a snapshot of how things were before the changes for those who want to stick with it that way.
There’s a lot I love about it. but I miss the “how to teach” sections that were included with each area in the old version. I found it helpful to look at the book choices and then read through the teaching suggestions as a refresher on what I was trying to accomplish.
I have a little free time this afternoon so I am rewatching Planning Your Charlotte Mason Curriculum dvd and filling in my forms. Love having the new guide to help. You all make it so easy. Thanks for sharing so many wonderful resources with us.
I guess I’m another weirdo 😉 I like the old ones. Maybe as I get further in to all this I’ll like the new ones better!
That said, I was able to find the old vers. of the standard curriculum, but not the old version of the early years, and I would *love love love* to have that for referrence as it made so much sense to me! Any chances it’s still up somewhere and I just haven’t found it yet?
@pgkcb13, We didn’t leave the old early years pages out there because, unlike the main curriculum guide, all of the same information is still pretty much there.
Can you put your finger on what it was about the old early years guide that you like better or feel like you’re not finding?
