Anyone have a suggestion on how to keep the scope for high school English reasonable. I typically require my high school students to spend about an average of an hour a day to earn each credit. English seems to encompass so many areas that I am finding it hard not to overburden my high school boys in this area. Literature and discussion, literature with the family, vocabulary/dictation, grammar review, composition, research skills. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to balance these areas over the week, term or year. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I am new here and am planning for the fall and seem really stuck in this one area.

    Thanks.

I had the same problem recently while scheduling English. I talked to my homeschool evaluator about it. She suggested that I split it into two classes. I label one class English and the other Literature. I am not sure if this helps or not, but it made it a little easier for me.

We split English and Literature here too, mainly because their literature class has been a full credit all on its own. Then composition covers the English credit.
