My dd age 9 loves poetry…but she prefers to sing the poems instead of read them aloud. How should I go about this? So far what I do is stop her when she starts singing, have her read it out loud a couple of times, and then she’s free to sing as much as she wants.

Loving poetry is great–good job mom!  She instinctively is also picking up on the rhythm and musicality of metered poetry.  Good for her!  However, you are right.  One does NOT read or recite poetry by singing (unless someone wrote it into a song.)  Are you good at poetry reading?  You know to avoid the sing-songiness?  If not, try looking up videos of poetry reading (Try to look up one like SpokenVerse) and have her listen a time or two that way.  Perhaps have her say it how she would say it if she were just reading it.  THEN let her sing her little heart out and enjoy it!!!
