I am new to SCM and trying to get everything ready for Grade 1 for my daughter….I was looking at the Grade 1 stuff on the bookfinder and it shows sooooo many books that are not on the lists for modules I have chosen….I did figure out some of them depend on the history time period you are studying but is the burgess adventures series just for reading practice? Are some of the books just suggestions for optional reading? Also I need suggestions for reading practice non-twaddle books….my nearly 6 year old has been reading for about a year now and is fairly fluent, I need challenging books for her to practice with….we are doing the second literature grouping and I had her start reading Black Beauty on a road trip last week, she blazed through 3 or 4 chapters only asking for help with a few words. Thanks!

The Bookfinder has books that anyone using the organizer have entered in.  Some are great, some are for particular programs people are using, and some are twaddle.

In the bookfinder you can search for a tag of SCM to find what the SCM team have recommended.       You can also check out the Free Curriculum Guide.

    hope that helps!

Yes that helps a TON! I was so confused! If they are listed on there as a SCM recommendation but are not on the book list in the front of my curriculum guide then are they for additional/optional reading? I just don’t want to miss something that we should be doing. Thanks!

Thank you for mentioning the SCM recommended book filter. I never noticed it and it helped so much. I was always so overwhelmed by the suggestions, but that really helped me narrow things down.

Most of the SCM tagged resources will be ones that are recommended somewhere on the curriculum guide. For example, the Burgess books you mentioned are listed as possible living science books for Grades 1-3. Don’t feel like you have to do them; those are just some suggestions.
