They were 8 (boy) and 6 (girl). I asked them if they wanted to do that kind of thing again this year and they both said yes. It was a nice change of pace for us all and really helped us savor the Thanksgiving season before the onset of Christmas. If you have younger ones (I have 2 younger), they could sit in for all the picture books, but just not do their own books.
I try to read a few Thanksgiving picture books in November, but we generally continue with our current read aloud. We did read Squanto, Friend of the Pilgrims one year.
EAch year is different. Some years I’m on the ball and can coordinate holidays and books. Other years, I’m not on the ball! This year…..well, I didn’t think of it until you brought it up!
Sometimes I feel guilty that we don’t talk about the holidays (MLK, President’s Day, Tday, Vday, etc.) more than just what happens naturally in our daily lives.
If you’re looking for a suggestion, Louisa May Alcott wrote a Thanksgiving story — but I can’t remember the title. We enjoyed it, though!
