I am looking for readers for my daughter. I have searched the forums and come up with some ideas. I am hoping maybe others have some great suggestions. So far, I am considering Frog and Toad books and Owl at Home by Arnold Lobel, Henry and Mudge books by Cynthia Rylant, George and Martha books by James Marshall, Harriette Taylor Treadwell, Warton and Morton by Russell Erickson, Little Bear books by Else Holmelund Minarik, and books by Russell Hoban and Clyde Robert Bulla like Daniel’s Duck. Any thoughts or suggestions? Are Amelia Bedelia books appropriate readers?
We are in that stage right now and have recently enjoyed ‘The Long Way to a New Land’ which I noticed is on the I can read History series. I’ll have to check out some more of those. 🙂
My ds in 1st loved the Little Bear readers, Owl at Home, Danny and the Dinosaur treasury, and is currently enjoying the Frog and Toad treasury. I am going to try the Harriet Treadwell readers (primer and 1st reader) and Christian Liberty Press book 1 Nature Reader soon.
The Beginner’s Bible and Christian Liberty Nature Readers are both really good. There are a bunch of I-can-read books on historical topics here: http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?subject=14&category=4437 . We have several of these and they tie in nicely with history studies.
Thanks all! Just the info. I needed. We love CLP Nature Readers, though my 1st graders aren’t at that reading level. But they love to have it read aloud. Of course, this is just our mileage.
Frog and Toad are favorites here as well as Danny the Dinosaur.
