Up until now I have used calendars or dug around online and found high res images of the prints I wanted and printed them on 8×10 photo paper. With both of these I have also printed out 4×6 images for my daughter to keep in a photo album so she has a record of all the pictures she’s studied. We are only on our 2nd year of school but already that little photo album is quite impressive and she loves to show the grandparents the artists she has learned about!
I plan on trying the portfolios out for the coming school year. When I buy them, how hard is it going to be to find the same prints online in a good enough res to print 4×6’s? Or would it work and would I have permission to scan and copy the large prints and shrink them to the smaller size? Or if I bought the digital version would it be pretty simple to print both sizes out?
I really like the hard copies — the paper is heavier card stock and I put a piece of clear packing tape on the back and then put my masking tape rolls on that to hang the pictures on the wall.
I really like the folders they come in— I print out a page with the artist’s name and dates and hang that with the picture we’re studying. And if I come across any notebooking pages or anythign like that, I print a copy and store that all in the folder with the pictures.
Wow, it is good to know that we can print for our own use at different sizes. We too have a photo album for the prints and need a smaller size to add them in, but I like the larger size, heavy paper of the ones in the portfolio for hanging up during our study time.
I think I’ll be getting the digital copy next and after printing put individual prints in page protectors and post them that way, or in a frame.
I love, love, love the idea of printing smaller sizes for individual albums but have never done it…just haven’t taken the time. I think with the digital ones I’d be more inclined to do so, we’ll see.
@eawerner, where do you find your prints for study? And do you find a short bio to read or just something from wikipedia/net? Thanks!
Has anyone who purchased the digital copy of these portfolios had trouble getting them printed on photo paper because of copyright issues? Just curious if it’s been easy or a headache?

I really like the quality of SCM’s portfolios too. We have one and I plan to order some more. I also really like the idea of having each child have their own artist study photo album!

If you take any of our digital products to a print shop and they say you can’t print it because of copyright restrictions, contact us and we’ll be happy to make you a permission letter.
