I’ve got a ten year old son who has ADHD and maybe some other disorders or learning disabilities. We’re currently working on getting all of that sorted out. He is very bright, but has had a very difficult time retaining math facts. I’ve read with great encouragement missceegee’s experience, and I’m thinking of taking a break from our regular math program to just focus on math facts. (We use Math-U-See.) I think he does OK with addition and subtraction, though he does make careless mistakes (could be because of the ADHD), but he truly can’t remember many math facts. He’s usually trying to skip count, and there are a few he just really doesn’t know at all–can’t even figure them out. Money is tight, but I know this program can be reused if I put the pages in sheet protectors and use a dry erase, right? I’ve got five children, and he is the oldest. Should I try to purchase the entire set along with the CDs right now? My other kids are 8, 6, 4, and nearly 2. The 8 and 6 year old don’t seem to be struggling nearly as much with math, but I’d like to prevent any problems. So, in short, my questions are: 1)Should I just purchase the multiplication for now since money is tight and think about the other things later? 2)Do you think it’s best to just focus on Rapid Recall even when your child is quite behind (I think I already know the answer to this)?
