My girls should be starting Math U See Delta this year. My oldest really struggles with remembering her math facts, she got 100% on her math tests but now does not quickly remember them at all. My youngest just needs some brushing up on her facts. I just received Rapid Recall in the mail today. I decided that we wouldn’t even start the new book until our math facts were better. So, now my question is, should I do the multiplication book of Rapid Recall (I was thinking to start there since they are the most recently learned) and then work on the addition and subtraction while starting MUS Delta? Or, should I do the multiplication, addition and subtraction Rapid Recall before ever starting MUS Delta?
Do all of RR before you start MUS. We had to do a good six months of “facts rehab” with RR before we could move on in MUS for both kids last year. I’m SO glad I did it, despite feeling behind all year. My kids are right where they need to be. We still review 3 sets of facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication) every day to keep them fresh. I did not do division with ds because he wasn’t at that point yet. But we will soon do RR division with him. He will finish Gamma in the next couple of weeks.
Thank you, Lindsey. We’re going to start Rapid Recall on Monday. We haven’t started any division yet, but I wanted to get on top of this before we are even further behind. Then, I’ll do the Rapid Recall Division with the MUS division. Do you think I should still start with the multiplication (I was thinking that just because we’d done it most recently) or back at addition?
You could do two simultaneously if the concept is understood. I did that with my oldest. RR for one operation is only 10 minutes total per day all spread out. We did two at a time and it wasn’t too much. Just one idea. Btw, this worked for my oldest when NOTHING else did. I highly recommend it.
That is a good idea, missceegee. Maybe I’ll do that. I am going to read through the manuals today and get ready to start tomorrow. I would like to finish sooner so we can get back on track.
Lindsey, how do you plan to do the RR division with MUS? I will be doing that when we get to it. Do you plan to start both at the same time or get part way into MUS and then start RR?
So, in a day do you do all the session in addition and then all the sessions in subtraction or do you mix it up, like listen to the CD addition, listen to the CD subtraction, visual input addition, visual input subtraction, etc?
I will probably start MUS division and see how we do. If there is definite struggling with the facts portion of it, we will stop MUS and just do RR. I don’t want to introduce the facts using RR before introducing the concept of division with MUS. Does that make sense?
Thank you so much for y’alls input and answering questions. For now I think we’ll just do addition and see how it goes, then maybe add in subtraction or maybe just wait and do it afterward. My youngest could handle both at the same time, but my oldest might get overwhelmed. Then we’ll finish off with multiplication and be ready to start MUS Delta and probably start RR division several chapters into Delta. Again, thank you!!
