I haven’t had them add words, but I often remind them to check their punctuation if I notice a comma missing. I usually wait until they are finished to see if they’ll correct it themselves.
So what I did was ask her to look at passage in the book and see if she notices any errors … She saw the added word right away and just erased it. Is that right… Or should I make her redo the passage?
fwiw the passage was : “You may deceive all the people part of the time, and part of the people all the time, but not all the people all the time.”
She wrote “You may deceive all OF the people part of the time, and part of the people all the time, but not all the people all the time”
I am leaning towards no big deal…. I just don’t want to encourage bad attention habit you know?
Sometimes I have my DC compare the passages. When they find a mistake, they can fix it. For mispelled words, it’s best to cover up the mispelling with a post-it tab or white-out, but that isn’t the case with an added word or forgotten comma.
