Forgive me if I’ve missed where this is talked about on the SCM blog or site, but for Grades 10-12 on the curriculum guide page that is specific for Math, Science, and Language Arts, under Language Arts it says:

“Require oral and written narrations; throughout the year work on expository, descriptive, and persuasive styles; include story, poetry, letter, script, essay, and dialogue forms, and drawing diagrams to support written work.”

What does it mean by “drawing diagrams to support written work”?

Where applicable, Charlotte included diagram drawing for expository type narrations. For example, if the students had been studying the human eye, a narration question might be something like, “Draw a diagram of an eye and explain how it works.” Or if they were studying seed dispersion, the question might be, “How are the following seeds dispersed? Give diagrams and observations.” Both of those examples are taken from exams for grades 7-9 students, so you can start asking for those types of diagrams as part of narrations at that level and just continue it through high school.
