Has anyone used the Great Course (Teaching Company) for history? I have two high schoolers and I was considerng using the U.S. History course for them, and then adding a few other books/activities. Has anyone ever done this?
I would take any advice on books/curriculum for U.S. history for high school-one daughter needs just this credit, and a few others and she will be ready to graduate. I just don’t know what other resources there are for US history that are BORING!
I really like the Teaching Company. I would encourage you to add some reading. Also read the reviews carefully of the courses you are considering. We have done these very successfully, but not for American history. They can be a lot of fun; if you added in some bios, living books, it might make a very nice course. In general I’m coming to like the newer MOOC’s better than Teaching Company (I’m cheap, lol) but there don’t seem to be any upcoming American history ones I can see. You might try watching. Good sites are coursera.org, udacity, and edX We are becoming MOOC addicts at our house. LOL I personally found the Notgrass materials pretty dull and one-sided. The Stobaugh I looked at last year and did like better. But I ended up designing our own American history course that my liberty-loving sons could live with.
