Our local librarian has suggested the Time Warp Trio books several times for my son to read and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about them. Would they be considered twaddle? Do you allow your children to read them? If not do you have any reading suggestions for an 8 1/2 year old boy?

    Thanks so much!

I don’t know anything about the Time Warp Trio, but I can make some suggestions:

    Homer Price by Robert McCloskey

Any in the Henry Huggins books or the Ralph books (Mouse and the Motorcycle, etc.) by Beverly Cleary

    Walter Edmonds. The Matchlock Gun

    John Reynolds Gardiner. Stone Fox

    Childhood of Famous Americans biographies

    Hope this helps,

I have the Time Warp Trio book called Tut Tut about Ancient Egypt. I have read it through with my older son, and while I wouldn’t call it a living book by any means, I have a very reluctant reader and the story engaged him. It is a thin, short book and quite humourous. It would probably be defined as twaddle but I was happy to have something he could read on his own and not complain about, so I am planning on using it again with my daughter this year when we do Ancient Egypt again. Mind you , we do have a discussion about this kind of literature and definitely make it the exception rather than the rule. Once in a while, on a rainy indoor day, it works for us:)
