If we’re supposed to start reading aloud from novels/chapter books (such as the Little House series) in first grade, where do all those well-done picture books come in? Do I mix them in with the chapter books, or do they need to be out of the way by the end of kindergarten? I tend to lean toward the first option.

    Karen –

Keep mixing them in. Some are simply too good to miss and warrant reading many, many times! I LOVE picture books and own Hundreds! One is never to old for Blueberries for Sal or Caps for Sale or Beatrix Potter or ….

    That’s my 2 cents!

Most definitely keep the picture books. The chapter books are additionally, not instead of. Christie, I caught my 21yo reading Blueberries for Sal the other day – must have been having a nice walk down memory lane!
