Question about new vs old history guides

What is the difference between old and new versions of the latter 3 history guides? Just the incorporation of the “Visits to…” series, or are there other major differences?
The first edition of Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation used Famous Men of the Middle Ages and Famous Men of the Renaissance and Reformation as spine books. Based on feedback from users, the second edition has moved those to independent reads for the older students.
I’ve outlined many of the changes in this blog post that came out today, but I’m happy to answer additional questions you might have.
We have the older guide that we have used and planned to use again. Is there a replacent suggestion if we wanted to keep our current guide but swap out the spine?
I actually already have the replacement A Castle with Many Rooms, could not resist a new SCM published book 🙂
Will there be a suggested replacement “plan” if you have the old guide but want to replace the family reading with Castle With Many Rooms? For the Ancient Egypt guide when the spine was replaced with Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors I thought there was a suggested schedule if you had and wanted to use the old guide with the new spine of Ancint Egypt and Her Neighbors.
Unfortunately, this switch wasn’t as neat and tidy as the Genesis guide’s switch was. I pared down the individual readings quite a bit for the younger grades, since the new spine covered many of those people and events now. I also changed the weekly flow to be more like this:
Day 1: Family spine
Day 2: Individual grade readings
Day 3: Geography and Bible
Day 4: Family spine
Day 5: Individual grade readingsSo I don’t see an easy switch out plan. What you could do is download the sample of the new Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation guide and take a look at the Contents pages and book lists. Most of the Contents line items will tell you the chapter name from the new spine. That listing might give you a feel for the pace and when each chapter is covered. Then maybe you could cross-reference with your existing guide and determine what you want to leave in and what you want to omit.
I hope that helps a bit. I’m sorry I don’t have a quick and easy swap out plan. Of the three new guides, this one got the biggest overhaul.

We thoroughly enjoy the history guides and all a big thanks for all the hard work the SCM team puts in.
I have the older history guides that I have used with my older set of boys the youngest of those is finishing up using them this year. But my youngest two that I am homeschooling now will just be starting on Genesis module next year. Should I buy the new modules or is there a guide that makes the old ones compatiable with the new guides and books. Or should I just stick with the old modules and spines. What are your thoughts?
