I have found a website that is called Queen Homeschooling she uses CM approach. I am looking at the Language Arts/Grammer lessons and wondered if anyone has used these books called Language Lessons for the very young/Language Lessons for Elementary. They are very close nad similar to English for the Thoughtful Child. Here’s a link check it out and give me your opinion. Thanks!http://www.queenhomeschool.com/productpages/Language%20Lessons/Language%20Lessons.html

I used LLVY for my 2nd grader last year and we really liked it.  It has lovely picture studies, copywork, and  a very gentle into to grammar.  We are using LLVY2 for him this year.  My daughter used LLEC last year for 6th grade and she enjoyed it as well.  She is doing LLSS this year.  Next year I am going to have her step up her grammar studies with Analytical Grammar, but I would highly recommend Queen’s Language Lessons, especially for the elementary years.Laughing

We use these and love them too. They are a bit mixed, in that they do picture study, and grammar together with copywork. For some that means less fuss, for others, it is harder to keep things focused. I tend to love them when our life style is busy busy, but when we have lots of days at home and time, I prefer to do picture study seperate and also copywork, so we can work out of whatever we are reading. Queen also has a great series of copywork books, and what looks like a good spelling program, though more phonetically based than CM did, I like it.

I have flipped back and forth over this issue, and have read the original writings from CM about lots of subjects but short lessons, and I just can’t make up my mind as to whether it is helpful or hurtful to combine all the language arts together??

    any thoughts?

I roll around back and forth with this too. We used Queen’s last year and I really liked it, but I also love to pick things out of what we are reading. Queen’s is wonderful if you travel or need to have ready-to-go lessons that require little, if any, prep work. I also do outside picture study on Friday’s in addition to the ones in the language lessons. The LL pics are a bonus or a cover if we get busy and miss a Friday or two.

For me it is easier to have a course of study that I can keep coming back to in the busy times. I just bought Intermediate Language Lesson workbooks for LBC to see how they work. I didn’t like the hardcover because my kids do not like to share and there was so much transcribing. I think the workbook will be fairly easy on them and on me. I also use Spelling Wisdom and LOVE it. I would love to take dication from their books, but that means I have to get it ready and I love the variety that SW provides.

I guess an eclectic approach works well here.

I would love to hear your opinion of the Intermediate Lang. Lessons! I have been back and forth between that and Queens for my 5th grader. She is such a realist and doesn’t enjoy ‘making things up’ I noticed in ILL sample pages it looked like there was quite a bit of asking for imaginative stories from the students having to do with fairies etc. Now, I love making up stories, but not my DD. She will play with her playmobil and read and love being read to, but she just won’t go into the world of fantasy. If I ask her to just pretend she says “mom, its not REAL”…sigh, anyhow, I would love to hear your thoughts on how it looks once you have it in hand. Does it have lots of storywriting assignments, and how much grammar do they introduce in each volume? I had Junior AG but it was quite dry and it didn’t fly here, so I am looking for something to fill that gap before AG in 7/8th grade.

    thanks!!
