Hello ladies! I have been looking through the Queen Homeschool Supply catalog. I see a lot that I like but it seems so gentle, that I almost wonder if it’ll be thorough enough…We do have some of the Bible studies, which I like. We also use language lessons, which we love.
Has anyone used any of their Science books? What about their Living Books for Science? What about the Nature Study books or Journals?
Has anyone else ever seen or used Queen Homeschool Supply’s “Learning History Through Living Books” series? I am wondering about THeras and His Town and its study guide for Greece, A Triumph for Flavius and its study guide for Rome, and the book From Egypt to Canaan and its study guide. Anyone ever seen or hear anything about these?
Heather – can you tell me a little bit about Theras and his town? also, can you tell me your impressions of Spelling through copywork and the Storybook of Science?
Theras & His Town is about a boy who grows up in Athens but then ends up living in Sparta. Its a great book to give you insight into time of Ancient Greece. We enjoyed the book but the study guide was too much for us at the time. Also, there was notebooking emphasis on studying the Greek gods, which we didn’t want to go indepth on. We simply enjoyed the book & discussed it. I know many families who enjoy the Queens history guides though.
The Story book of Science is a favorite in our house (and others here too), which shares science in a real & living way – with Uncle Paul telling the stories to his nieces and nephews. Lots about animals, plants, the earth, etc.
Spelling through Copywork is nice because it reinforces phonics. My 10yo ds loves it & is truly becoming a great speller – he’s in the 2nd (B) book.
I know there are others here who use Queens, so hopefully you’ll here from them too!
I am thinking about science and history in particular…as mentioned above.
also – anyone use their pictures in cursive? would it be overkill to use that AND do copywork? I don’t really understand – would they do spelling thru copywork? what about the thematic copywork books that Queen sells?
We have used many Queens products over the past three or four years. The History books we have used are From Egypt to Canaan, Ben and Me, Mr. Revere and I. We did use the study guides also. I picked and choose which activities from the guide to do each day, not all of the activities. There are alot of writing and researching activities, but since we did written narrations for our history reading I chose not to do those. All and all I have really enjoyed the books and study guides. I do plan on using more of them as we move in to those time periods.
Blessings
Diane
