Hello, My daughters are part of the french school board here in Quebec, Canada. We actually have no choice to include french in our curriculum so the board approves our homeschooling. I would like to connect with others who have this same challenge so that we may share ressources and get connected to a community for support.

I hope some other QCers come out of lurking on the boards here and join your conversation. Out west we must do a second language starting in grade 5, but we may choose it. We do Latin. My heart kinda aches for when families “must-do” topics or subjects when enrolled. The only relief from that is registering and loosing the blessing of financial support. Hugs to you, I hear ya!

Allo! I am from Quebec but been living in the State for a long time. I can’t help you much as my kids learn French as a second language. I did like Mission Monde, I don’t know what the requirements are over there so I don’t know if that would work?
There are 2 moms I met here, will send them an e-mail to see if they can chime in.
Were are you? I am planning to get together w/them when I go visit my mom in July.

Hello, I am 20min from Montreal, off-island on île-Perrot. I will check out Mission Monde. I would love to find a french reading list that is Charlotte Masson “compatible”; and then a supplier from who I can purchase or borrow these books from. Thanks for your help!

I got the email from “petitemom”. 😉 We live in QC, too. Our family is bilingual, and our studies are in both English and French. I would be happy to share the resources we have used. How old are your children? And are you looking for French L1, or L2? Only literature selections, or other subjects as well?
I have found some good resources at lalibrairiedesecoles.com. I have used some of their grammar resources, modifying them to follow CM methods. I’ve also used their dictation and some of their literature books.

We are also in Québec! In my short homeschool experience, I have not found any CM style “all made for you” Curriculum in french.. And not much good literature or living book either!! It is also a big struggle of mine, to plan French.. We do most of the other subjects in English.. There are a few good ressources from Europe, most of them are more on the very rigorous side of Classical. But in my opinion more “living” and well made! I have also found a few ressources, and as Mme Labonte, I would be happy to share them with you..

Hello ! I am a French canadian, but we are currently living in the US. Right now, my kids are learning both Engligh and French as a “first” language. It’s true that there’s no CM French curriculum, but it’s possible to find living books in French. Here is a website with a nice list imo :

There’s also a list of science and history books on the same site. We mostly follow a Charlotte Mason English curriculum, complemented with French phonics and literature. Also, French is a very complex language with lots of grammatical rules, so I think that I some point you would also need a more formal writing curriculum. As of now, I haven’t found one that I love though.

This is why I love this site. Living in the middle of the US we have limited requirements, but this just shows me other requirements, things to consider and good objectives for down the road thanks to the responses of the others on this site with all their help. You are all the best.
