We don’t sing hymns in our church (only psalms) so hymn study has never made sense for us. But I have been trying to get back into psalm-study instead. If anyone is interested, I did a blog post on how we do it: https://lettersfromnebby.wordpress.com/2016/03/09/psalm-study-returns-psalm-8/

That’s a great post, Nebby! We are Reformed Presbyterian as well, and while we do sing hymns, most of our singing is Psalms. I love singing God’s Word.

I think this is just GREAT, Nebby! We go to a non-denominational church and they sing hymns, Psalms & more modern praise choruses! We are more reform in our theology and I have never thought about replacing a hymn study with Psalm study! What a great idea! I am planning for next year and by the time we begin the next school year my children’s ages will be 8, 7, 6, 4, 3 and 2. Would this be a good time to begin such a study or would recommend waiting a year or two! Thanks so much for sharing!

You’re welcome. I’m glad someone else finds it interesting 😉 My most recent post, Psalm 11, I tried to give more step by step instructions. I would think 2,3 and 4 might be bit young unless the 4 is a precocious reader. I think it would be hard to do psalm studies the way I have them if one can’t read. 6,7 and 8 could certainly do it though. In fact, I think starting younger is probably better. They don’t have so many preconceived notions about how poetry should go as older children and it will be natural to them.

Me by, 2 of my 3 older kiddos are great readers! My 2nd child was diagnosed with autism and we are recovering her through diet! She is improving so much and she can read but we are moving at a much slower pace! I am very interested in doing a Psalm study with he kids though! Thanks so much for sharing!
