Blessedmom, thank you for your kind words. I hope you find the books very helpful!!
Sue, from what I have done so far with Professor B, the facts are presented in more of a story form, which helps a child understand the fact instead of just memorizing. For example, for adding nine facts, (like 9 + 5) the teacher explains that the nine wants to be a “teen” (ten), so it asks the number 5 for one more. The five becomes a 4 and the 9 becomes a teen, so the answer is four-teen. There are chart games included that reinforce this concept. I hope I am explaining this in way that makes sense.
Missceegee, your review was fine! It is always good to hear others experience and I appreciate your input.
Cedargirl, I am still enjoying this different way of doing math. My very bright 8 year old was having a hard time memorizing math facts until now. It is simple and logical to use. I am relieved to find something that works so well!
Are you guys using the Online program, or their book program.
I was looking at their online samples, and my son noticed and was right there like white on rice…. but I’m not sure I want to do a computer program, and there isn’t much about their book system on there.
I have ordered the CD&book, it seemed more cost effective than the online subscription. Math is the one thing I say that whatever delivery method makes it clear and understandale to them is all right by me. wink.
How friendly is it? I do wonder if it is similar to the online sample lesson in style and how they explain things…. not sure what to ask…. sigh.
My son isn’t enjoying math for the last few months, and is strugglnig with a couple of things. He used to love math and want to do it first, and now he is complaining when he needs to do math. (He is 7, and is half way through MEP Year 2). My 5yo daughter is half way through MEP year 1 and still loves it….
Suzukimom, I just looked at the online sample of level one and it is exactly the same as the book. Personally I would prefer the book instead of just online. I am doing the book with 3 different ages ranging from 5, 8, and 12. My 12 year old is already needing the second book very soon though! I do Professor B in combination with Teaching Textbooks with my oldest, which he really likes, and he has never liked math until now! I highly recommend both of these programs.
I ran across this old post while looking at reviews for Professor B Math. I am wondering if anyone is still using it and what your opinion is of it a year later.
We used 12 weeks with my Grade 2 son. It was not what I thought it would be and he did not really enjoy doing the CD or really retain the lessons very well. The workbook was quite stressful for him.
Binky, here is my opinion after using with it so far with 3 kids. For homeschool moms, it should be used as a supplement, not as a sole curriculum. I actually think it’s fun and interesting. But everyone is different. It’s probably harder for homeschool moms because we want a typical lesson format (I use Math U See as my everyday curriculum). Professor B is not set up like that. When I observed it at Ambleside, they of course had made lesson plans using the book and the children were excelling. But I do NOT have the time/ desire to break the book down into individual lessons so it is strictly supplement for my situation. My kids learned from it though, and remember many things from using it. I will continue to use the first and second books as needed.
Hope this gives you the insight you need. Blessings!
