Did anyone with a Kindle Fire + YC book collection have trouble downloading YC books to the KF? I have followed the instructions to a tea in how to transfer the books to the documents (I have tried through USB cord, emailing, and converting through calibre off my pc). I have called Amazon and did everything they said to do while on the phone with them (they verified that the files were compatible and believe the books should tranfer in the format I have them on the pc). Amazon staff filed a ticket and are supposed to call me back in a few days. I reset my kindle fire to factory defaults and tried everything all over again today. The YC files come up under my es file exploer as downloaded, but kindle will not open the books. I downloaded the YC book collection in epub format to my pc as well and put them in the calibre reader and they are working great there. Dh says not to worry about getting them on the kindle since we will be getting an ipad next week and we can read the books from there, but if I purchased the collection for use on ALL our devices I would like to have them on the kindle fire as well. Just curious if anyone else had trouble like this. Also, if Amazon does not get back with me for a solution, I’m wondering if rooting the device will help me get the books tranferred over. I know rooting would void the warranty, but my warranty is up next month anyway.
Yes, I also had issues. When I purchased the YC books a year or so ago they loaded onto my regular Kindle with no problems. When I just recently purchased a Kindle Fire I loaded the YC books with a USB cord, but couldn’t find them at first. For some reason they come over as Documents. They show up on the Docs screen with generic Kindle pictures instead of the cover of the books. Although, when you open a book it will show up on the carousel with the book cover and look like any other Kindle book.
I didn’t have time to work with it much and haven’t contacted Amazon yet. I don’t know if loading it into the Cloud and then loading onto the Kindle Fire would be an option. It sounds like an issue Amazon needs to work out.
On my original Kindle I sorted the YC books into categories which is very helpful when looking for types of books. I also created categories for members of the family. It appears I may not be able to do this with the Fire. For this reason I may only load a few books at a time onto the Fire. Still working it all out…
I’ll be interested to hear what Amazon has to say.
Yes! I described my problem to Lisa at YC so she’d know how to handle it if it came up with anyone else. I found out the hard way that as weird as it may seem, you must save the books (yes, all of them) to your desktop, and then click and drag them into your Kindle books folder in My Computer . I did this in increments and it worked just fine. I’m not sure what the issue is, I had no problem saving them on my older Kindle and on my daughter’s ereader, but my new Kindle Fire HD was quirky. They will show up on your Fire in the docs category. Hope this helps!
Heather, what you said you did was a long tedious process tranferring a few books at a time, but THANK YOU SO MUCH, it is the only thing that worked today! And in the process of frustration before reading your reply, I searched out the Gutenburg site and found out you can change a setting on the kindle fire to allow installation of outside apps, download an epub reader called fb reader unto the kindle that works only on certain books (maybe just public domain, but I’m not sure). I was able to download lots of epub file gutenburg books (many with TOC and really nice illustrations) instantly unto the fbreader on the kindle. The library for that app is laid out well also. The instructions are on the gutenburg site on the bottom page of this link…. http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Gutenberg:Kindle_Fire_Review
I’m thankful you ladies on the forum were able to advise me because Amazon has not called me back and I don’t think they would have figured that out.
Chocodog, the link that Lisa from YC sends to download the books expire after 7 days. I purchased the epub files and she sent the kindle files at my request. She did say if I need them again past 7 days I can call her and she would resend the link.
Thanks again, I have to go now because 4yo dd just informed me she swallowed a penny! Oh my!
Thanks for the link. It was easy to do . Ironically the article writer doesn’t like kindle and recommended the Nexus 7 instead. We started out with the Nexus 7 but exchanged it for the Kindle due to all of the glitches we encountered! Thanks again so much!
