How are you going to print your Using Language Well book.  I really don’t like PDF’s.  I like the real book in my hand, but to save on shipping I ordered PDF this time of the student and teacher book for book 1.  I haven’t printed a book before.  Will I get a more durable, lasting quality by printing it at staples versus my home printer?  Do you put it in a binder or have it spiral bound?  Are you going to keep any of the pages (like the rubrics) loose so they can be pulled out alongside your child’s work or just have them pull out the whole book?

I prefer paper over PDF, but chose the PDF for ULW because I have multiple children and plan to use for the other kids.

I have a good quality laser printer (even on toner save mode quality is good) so it was easy to print at home and duplex pages. I 3 hole punched and put in a binder.

I would check online the cost to print, then dependin on your printer decide if it makes sense to print at home or not. When I had an inkjet, printing at home was expensive, so I printed larger things through office supply chain.

I print our PDFs at home.  We used to have a laser printer, but now only have an Inkjet.  I print double-sided to save on paper and use the ink saving printing mode.  I use a 3-hole punch and put it in a binder.  The kids have tabs in their binders to keep their different “workbooks” or subjects separate.   For the coming year, they’ll have a section for Visits to Europe, one for their Burgess bird coloring pages, one for copywork, one for written narrations, one for English grammar, etc.

If there is a page that you’ll be using frequently (like the rubrics), I like to print that on cardstock for durability.  Also, sometimes I only print one term at a time.

Can anyone recommend a decent, inexpensive laser printer? We have an all in one inkjet photo printer, but I would really like to have a printer that is more cost effective for printing ebooks. Thanks!

I have the Brother 2280 (talked about in this thread https://simplycharlottemason.com/scmforum/topic/ink-cartridges/).

I have been very happy with it! It prints only B&W but that has not been a problem. Having a copier and scanner has also been a great benefit (I did not have those before).

We had a brother laser printer as well.  It lasted about 10 years with quite a bit of use (DH prints quite a bit out at home too).    We just bought a new printer and decided to go with an Inkjet, but I was seriously considering another Brother laser printer.  I think we definitely got our money’s worth out of it!
