I know you can go online and see the SCM curriculum guide; but I wondered if there was a PDF file or some kind of printable guide so that I could have a hard copy. Does anyone know if this is availabe? I didn’t know if maybe I overlooked it somewhere.
The curriculum guide from the web page is excellent; I love the way it is designed. I guess I was just wanting a printable hard copy of everything to put in my binder so that I have a quick “at a glance” guide to follow w/o having to log into the computer. I guess it would be something like what you guys have in the beginning of each of your Family Handbooks; it lays out everything contained in the guide and when it will be used so that you can prepare ahead of time. I have tried to copy the whole thing from the web page and then pasting in a word document but it doesn’t turn out right.
I will probably end up typing everything myself into a word or excel program; I just wanted to make sure there wasn’t something already available before I did that.
I’m clearly not understanding what would be the most useful but I’d like to help if I can. If you’ll all bear with me while I ask some more questions I’ll try to grasp it. Thanks for your patience. 🙂
Are you wanting something different than what appears on the Web pages? For example, if you just go to your Web browser File menu and select Print, what do you need that it doesn’t do? Or what is lacking, added, or organized differently?
Any chance either of you could make a sketch and scan it or photograph it to e-mail to me?
Doug, maybe they are wanting to be able to select “grade 5” and have all of grade 5 on one page with curriculum suggestions and guidelines all in one spot. As it is you haev to click on math, history, science, etc to get the info for 5th grade for each subject.
Yes, I would agree that that would be ideal but not really a necessity. Being able to see the individual grades gives you an overall look at every subject for that grade; you get to see from year to year what the kids will doing all on one page.
But, I did learn something here; you mentioned just printing from the web page – simple enough. I have done this before on other web pages but it seems w/o fail that you get everything on the web page (including the stuff on the side bars) when you print. This is why I mentioned that I copied and pasted in Word. So I tried what you suggested and it does work. You still get a little unnecessary info on the page (which you would not get on a PDF) but not everything. So this is good!
Thanks for your kindness and patience with me regarding this…..I so appreciate your support.
Thanks everyone for the great feedback! I’m learning a lot.
mommy25, What extra stuff are you seeing on the page that doesn’t need to be there?
We specifically made all of our pages so they wouldn’t print all the site menus and things that would just waste ink. That’s pretty easy to customize if there is more I can do to make it better.
How it prints is partially based on your Web browser software, though. For example, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome should print really well. But Internet Explorer before version 8 doesn’t support most of the print commands and ignores our efforts to make it nice. Explorer 8 does much better but does still have a few issues. Do you know what browser and version you are using?
I do have Explorer 8. When I print the first page of the Curriculum guide (summary page) it does print all the info above the table (it reads….We’re happy to provide this free Charlotte Mason curriculum guide…..). Now I did try to print it in Chrome but it did the same thing. However, my husband just showed me how to do a “print preview” in Explorer 8 (print preview option not available in Chrome). Explorer 8 breaks this into two pages; so doing a print preview gives you the option to print only the page with the table (and not the extra info).
When you look at the individual subject tables the other little info that I mentioned is the page numbers, website info, copyright info, etc….NOT A BIG DEAl….really. I just have to remember to print only the “tables” page and not the page with other information.
I hope I am making sense…..everything is fine….no need for any extra work. Thanks for being willing to help and for all that you provide on this website! It is truly a blessing.
Okay, I just couldn’t leave it alone while I was thinking of improvements. 🙂 I made the intro text on the summary page not print and hopefully improved the look of the printed tables overall. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
What about the intro text on the other pages? Should it print or not? Or should I make it so you can choose?
Oh, I also forgot to mention before that some of the wide pages will print better in landscape mode (page turned sideways). Your print settings should have an option for it that you might want to experiment with.
I LOVE IT!!!! Your improvements are wonderful! I like the look better (much cleaner) and I also like the fact that the summary page isn’t there.
IMHO, I do not think the summary pages for all the subjects needs to be there as long as you keep them up on the sight. And I noticed that on the reading page, when you look in the “print preview” mode, you do not have the choice to print the summary and/or the table; it is all on one page.
I love using the landscape mode and did not really think about using it for this; it works great, especially on the pages for literature and history.
I also wonder if there would be a way to let people know when they visit the sight that they can “print” their free CM curriculum guide? Just do this _____. I don’t know – that may be corny – this is not my expertise – I know when I first visited the sight, if I saw where I could print the guide easily, I would have printed it so that I could review it more while in bed or on the couch….KWIM? I just kept coming back to the sight time and time again looking for the books/curriculum when I wondered what your recommendations were…..Not a big deal…just handy.
I just made a few more changes on the Curriculum Guide pages. Any of the pages with blocks of intro text now have a link to hide and show that section. I also set a few more unnecessary parts of the pages to not print.
