As I begin preparations for my new CM Education year, I can honestly brag about the anticiation felt in our home by all!  I’m so excited!!  Laughing

I have a quick question.  When you have set up the notebooks for your children, have you given them a separate notebook for individual subjects? (Which ones do you like? The stitched ones or spiral binding?)  Or set up divisions in a central notebook (3-ring binder) with looseleaf paper for the different topics?  I am talking about spelling/dictation; written narration; vocabulary sentences; answers to specific questions….

If you have a favored way to do this, please share.

    Blessings to you!

    Hi Pam,

I may not be of much help because we’ve used both and I have likes and dislikes with both methods. The spirals are nice because they are small, keep all one subject together, have the pages attached so they are not scattered, and are easily transported hither and yon. What I do not like about them is – they are easily misplaced, we cannot add in pages easily, and when the student is done for the year there is wasted paper, typically (if it’s something we just want to keep one year’s record for).

The subject binder is good because it tends to be more flexible and at the end of the year we have just one book to keep – pretty much pop it on the shelf and it’s done. However, it’s bulky and so the student has to take pages out to write on and so we easily end up with papers scattered about waiting for checking and refiling.

We’ve compromised in that we use some of both and use the spirals that have three holes in them so that they can be put in the 3-ring binder for storage. The exception to this is their journals and copywork books that tend to be more ornate and will be a keepsake – those still float around. Wink

    Blessings,

    Cindy

You raise all the familiar peeves I have about both methods of paper keeping, too, Cindy.  Thank you for you input.
