Prepared Dictation and Copywork

Are we suppose to separate the copywork from dictation? I’m wondering if the prepared dictation passage that the child studies is also their copywork. I understand that the child is to copy the dictation passage.

Here’s what I was thinking of doing.

For spelling I would do prepared dictation. Have the child study the passage {about one passage a week}.

Then daily have the child copy a passage {different from the dictation passage}.

Sorry, if I’m not making sense. I’m just trying to figure it out. Currently for the summer I am only doing copywork. In the fall I’d like to add dictation.
