I see that most of the art covered in CM is painters from mid AD onward.  Has anyone done art from pre-history?  I found this website and most of it is not paintings.  While I think paintings are important and I love the ideas I have found here, I was thinking to keep art and history somewhat together.  I also just like the idea of showing some of this to my son, but know it can’t all be covered.  Any thoughts?

I have done a unit on prehistoric art.  Mostly we just looked at it, and talked about the people who did it and the things they wanted to show in their art.  We did do some little projects where we used what would be similar techniques – painting with simple paints on a rough, wall like surfance, impressions of hands, and so on.

Years ago, when I took art classes, we did some nice pottery vases in a greek style – we had pre-made greenware, and looked at all kkinds of Greek vases, and produced something similar ourselves.  That was quite a fun project as well.
