My elderly dad (87 this winter!) has always been forgetful, but it’s getting to the point where it’s a serious problem. Back in June, he had a cornea transplant on the left eye, and he’s been using anti-rejection drops in that eye ever since….or so I thought.
While in the eye doctor’s office for a follow-up yesterday, my dad was clearly confused when responding to the nurse’s questions about what drops he was using when. At one point, he said he hadn’t been using any drops for a few months. I don’t really know how often he has been using them, but honestly, I couldn’t find but one bottle (not the important one) when we came home afterwards. The eye doctor was very, very upset because he said there are already signs of rejection of the transplant, and if it doesn’t improve within a month, it could fail altogether & dad would be blind in that eye.
So, we need prayers….first, that he’ll use the drops regularly & I will be able to remind him without seeming “bossy” (which he doesn’t like….who would?), and second, that his memory/confusion issues don’t become worse. I plan to call his primary doctor to discuss this. I don’t know what they do medically for things like dementia.
