Hi All, I am at the hospital with our 7YO DS. He had surgery yesterday related to his congenital cleft lip and palate–a rhinoplasty surgery. Basically the doctor took cartilage from his rib and worked on his nose to reshape and build it up. Everything went great and DS was doing so well. He is a great patient and takes it all in stride.
But about 9 p.m. last night, he began crying and I knew something was wrong. I was in the sleep chair in the PICU room with him, so I jumped up and went to his side. He pulled his blankets back and pointed to his side where the incision was done for the cargilage. It was bulging so I called the nurse and she rushed in.
Long story short, he was taken back into the OR with his surgeon last night at 11:30 p.m. All went well and the bleeder was found and cauterized. We got back to his room around 3:45 a.m. Thankfully, God granted me sleep throughout as I waited during his surgery. I was up here alone as my DH was home with our other children. It was supposed to be a quiet night.
But, through it all, I was reminded in a very tanglible way that God never leaves us and I felt His presence powerfully with me in that waiting room, and I knew He was in the OR with our son as well.
I am updating our blog if anyone wants more details or to see a few pics I posted of him post-op. Quite the sight but he is taking it so well. The biggest prayer I ask of you all now is for pain control. They are working so hard to manage it, but when the morphine wears off DS is in pain. He also is a great patient to a fault–he won’t say anything when he begins to feel discomfort. Bless his heart! We all told him to please tell us if he feels at all uncomfortable, because we know the pain can get intense quickly.
I knew you all would pray, so I came here to share. We will be facing open-heart surgery a week from Monday with our 2YO DD, so please also pray that we can go home sometime this weekend in order to have some time for DS to be recovering at home before we are back up at Children’s again for the next surgery.
Thoughts and prayers with you and your family Leslie, may God hold you all in His loving hands and give healing and peace to your family. Also praying for your son that he has no further complications and can go home soon to recuperate. Blessings, Linda
Leslie, the pictures you posted are so sweet. Your son is really amazing and I am giving thanks to Jehovah-Jireh, the eternal God who provides everything. It’s an honor to be able to pray for you and your family.
Hugs to you and will continue to pray for pain relief, rest and healing. We have been there/done that with both the open heart surgery with a 2 yo and the cl/cp surgeries. His grace is sufficient.
