I wanted to start a simple prayer/gratitude journal with my dc (7, 5, 2) and wasn’t sure how to do this.  Any input?  My goal was to teach them how to think of others in prayer and how to see God’s hand in answering our prayers.  All thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks,

We are in the process of doing one. We are making a page for each day of the week and putting pictures of the people we are going to pray for that day. I think it helps visualizing the person as little ones pray. You can then write on the page the specific prayer requests for that person and then how God answered.

I think simplicity is the key. You want to make it doable for them, not overwhelming and not too much on you or them to keep up with. What has God laid on your heart for them to be praying about specifically? – Focus on that in considering the layout of the journal. Once you have a habit going, you can always build on it and add more. It even opens the door for them to expand on it as they are lead to do so.

Also, I think letting your children be part of the process of making their own journal gives them ownership of it and increases the motivation of using it.

For our gratitude journals – We simply have numbered lists for those that can write. We try to add at least one thing to the journal per day. I have used nice journals and simple composition books. Here is a pre formatted one for you get kids that I bought for my 2 & 6 year olds for the coming year.

    I use this:

But it is really tiny – so you have to be intentional and simple!

I have used this for a little more in-depth Bible study of praise through the Psalms (talks a lot about gratitude and thanksgiving) with my kids and it works very well:
