My youngest, Henrietta (Hettie), now 13m old, was born with a cleft palate and tomorrow morning at 7:30 is her palate repair surgery. It is a 60-90 minute procedure and she will be put under general anesthesia. Please lift her up and prayer and her recovery.
Recovery is 2 weeks with arm braces on 24 hours a day so she can’t put her hands in her mouth and rip her stitches. And 4-6 weeks of puréed food only, and this is my food loving child.
Praying! My oldest and dearest best friends son was born with that and he is a very happy, beautiful young boy(5) with no more surgeries in the future. Only dental work in time. We just spoke last week after his final surgery check up and parents are both relieved and excited to just move on.
Our two youngest daughters have clefts. One is just the palate, the other is both lip and palate, so we have been through multiple surgeries and the youngest has another coming up this spring. It’s difficult, but perhaps not as difficult as you might think. Neither of my girls used any pain meds after the initial 24 hours and, aside from the food restrictions, were pretty much back to their normal selves within 48 hours.
