Prayer for our family

Dear friends – would you consider praying for our family this weekend?  We are participating in the Bible Bee (I know, I know  – we shouldn’t offer rewards for memorizing), BUT it has been a wonderful experience for my 9 year old – this summer she has spent an hour a day doing an inductive Bible Study on I John and memorizing 24 passages of scripture!  She has learned that the new testament is written in Greek and how to use Strong’s to determine the meaning of words and to cross-reference the word with other passages of scripture.  And she really, really knows those 24 passages – which is AMAZING to me.  I memorized scripture every week for 9 years while I was in Christian school as a child, but really only knew them for a week – there was never any cumulative review like with the scripture memory system… and while the scripture memory system has been a huge blessing for our family in learning scripture, the challenge of learning 24 passages this summer has shown me that I really need to be MORE diligent in using the scripture memory system and not be afraid of giving my kids some longer, more challenging passages.  I HIGHLY recommend these Bible studies – you can buy copies of the studies from the past years even if you don’t want to participate in the Bee – they are a great tool for independent Bible study starting around age 8 or 9.

Please pray for our safety as we have to travel to get to the Bee this weekend, for my daughter’s recall that she would be able to remember what she has faithfully worked on, but mostly that our unbelieving family members might see God’s glorious truth and gift through our participation in this program.  I’m hoping they ask lots of questions AND listen to my daughter recite God’s Word to them!  (I’m going to video her doing all 24 verses and put it on Facebook for them to see!)
