    Has anyone used this?

I am considering using this with a  co-op that we are forming this fall, and I wanted to get some input from anyone who’s actually used it.

This would be for a group of girls ages 8-11 and we would be meeting once a week for the year, for a couple hrs at a time. We wouldn’t be doing the science, and other social studies related lessons. Mainly just the activites, and extra stuff.

Or…. would it be better to just get the information online, there a lot of free ideas for activities and such, but I really feel like I could use kind of a guidebook to make it easier for me to come up with activities and handiwork to do.

Has anyone ever been part of a Little House co-op? What did you use, and what were some of the things you liked/ didn’t like about the class?

    Thanks!

Also I wanted to mention that we would be reading the books at home, and discussing them  and doing activities in the class.

We did some of this book this year and the girls loved it! I think it would work great for a co-op. You could have your readings at home and then spend your class time discussing what was read that we and doing the activities. We made corn cob doll’s, aprons, a big bladder ball, molasses snow candy and much more. You’ll have a great time!

If you can get a copy of “A Pioneer Story” (or “A Pioneer Sampler” [same book]) by Barbara Greenwood – it has a story chapter, and then a page or two with information… and often an activity that can be done.

Among the ones already mentioned by people there is making cheese and making butter.

Also – at some point you will want them to curl their hair with rags

A good project that would take several weeks would be a class quilt, with each girl contributing a square. When it is finished, you could donate it to the fire department, crisis pregnancy center, or homeless shelter. Of course, you would have to know someone who could finish it for you.

There’s also a Little House cookbook with the foods mentioned, adapted for modern stoves (gas or electric). No microwaves, though.
