My son is 16 in December going into 10th grade and has no issues other than a huge hate for math, for the main reason it is and always has been hard for him.  If it is something like balancing his checkbook that’s another story and he gets it and it makes everything have reason.  So I know in the HS years Algebra probably will not be a good fit for him.  So I would love to hear from others who have used other courses like accounting, banking (actual program), etc to fit in for his high school years.  Wondering if you wonderful moms and dads have had any good programs you’d like to suggest?

Math U See Stewardship Math is good.  I have all my kids use it.

Livingmath.net sells lesson plans for math history/literature that I hope to use in the future.

We used some old ACE business math and accounting that was given to me.  Also,  for my kids who were interested,  they read books about doing your books for your own business, and other small business books.

I think algebra and geometry are practical and useful. Here are  a couple more ideas

Thanks I will look into it all the options you have suggested and would continue to hear from others.

I LOVE math, went to school for accounting and numbers. Numbers are easier any day than remembering your name for me. So I do agree Algebra and Geometry are important I am not saying that they are not sorry if that was implied. But if I want my son to get through math, retain any of it, and learn how to manage his life along the way, well I have to move in a more unconventional direction.  My 1st & 3rd child will follow the more norm lay out but not this one.  Thanks again!

Another option is to cover Algebra and geometry in a lighter way, such as Hands on Equations and Patty Paper Geometry.

I’ve also heard good things about the Key to series.

That said, I used a Dave Ramsey course and a Larry Burkett book to teach Personal Finance to my son. He enjoyed both of them.
