I have Powerglide for Spanish on my bookshelf. I have been planning to buy Tell Me More or Rosetta Stone, but it is so expensive and I DO have this program sitting right here. Does it work? Will we be frustrated? It has cassette tapes so I’ll have to locate a tape player. My children are 1st, 4th & 5th grades. We had RS for Vietnamese and it was pretty boring. If I had money to spend I’d just buy Tell Me More, but I’m hoping to use Powerglide for now and then buy TMM when I have more money.
We’re using PowerGlide French Jr and also have their Spanish JR. It works fine, you simply need to do some repetition of the activities and stories, or make some games to help learn that vocab unless you have a very auditory learner.
my kids are 4, 2 and 2. my husband is fluent in Spanish (I’m alright), so we’re trying to catch them at a young age, but nothing formal yet. We have some very cute videos that they have all picked up a good bit of vocabulary from – Hola Amigos (3 vol.). Our library had copies of them. Another thing we’re doing with them is letting them listen to cds with Spanish conversation on the (Living Language). I will also pull out the Baby Einstien videos and play them in Spanish for learning vocab. I know some people will label everything in thier house in Spanish. We’re able to do a lot informally that way since my husband (and me sometimes) can speak to them. Maybe something like that wouldn’t break the bank but help with some vocabulary acquisition in the meantime and when you are able to buy TMM you could more comprehensively cover the grammar? just a thought. We really like the TMM as well and have it on our list of “to buy”s 🙂
