So like I am not overwhelmed enough w/getting ready for high school, someone told me today that it is important for kids to learn how to give power point presentation.

My oldest son would probably prefere to die but I still need to question!

Is it a requesit for any college, is it really important? I wouldn’t even know where to start w/this?

It is not required to get into college (as far as I know), but my ds has had to give a power point presentation in two different classes his first semester already. I did not teach him, he figured it out himself. He is teaching his two younger brothers for me.

My dd16 figured it out herself and since she needs a technology credit (in Texas) I am requiring her to do a PP presentation for a couple of her large research projects.  She enjoys it, perhaps someone in the neighborhood or at church can help him.  And if you have a local library they may even have classes.  If he doesn’t like any of those ideas try You Tube!

Thanks, from what you are telling me it looks as though we have time for that. My oldest is 12.

My friend was telling me that they start teaching it in 8th grade in private schools but I don’t see why we would need to do that now.

Good to considere probably for last year of high school…

PowerPoint is very user-friendly, esp. among people who are already tech savvy.

My kids are tech savvy when it comes to using the Xbox and playing video games! Does that count for something!?!

    LOL.  Ahhh, kids.

Do your kids use Excel, Word, or Publisher?  I’ve found if my kids knows one of these programs it’s easy for them to quickly pick up the other.  If not, there are lots of online tutorials for PowerPoint (or any other Microsoft program, for that matter.)

They use word. I’ll look more into it a little further down the road. ThankS!

Clarifying, Texas public schools require this credit, it’s not a homeschool requirement…..but, very, very useful no matter the goals after graduation.

Agree that PP is user friendly.  If I can do it, anyone can.Cool

It is definitely good for children to become proficient in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc. But with regard to giving presentations in the workplace, I’ve found that slide shows can be poorly used or relied on too much. However, they are an effective tool when used appropriately by one who has learned to present well.
