Hello all.  I never had a problem with potty training, and not sure what to do with my current 3 1/2 yo.  I’ve resorted to bribing with gluten free raisonetts and he helps pick up his messes.  He does go fairly often on the potty but I think he still has too many accidents – usually multiple times a day.  Doesn’t seem to mind helping pick up the mess, and sometimes doesn’t even ask for his raisonett.  He does better with just underwear (vs with pants too) but usually still has an accident.  I can’t really figure out what the ‘block’ is and to help complete the training.  I never stessed about potty training in partular, my first two were done around 2 and my 18mo is on well on her way.  Do I just need to wait longer?  Any advice and experiences welcome  🙂  Thanks in advance!

Have you tried the potty training in a day methods? For us it normally ends up being “potty training in about 3 days”.

There is a book, I believe, by this title that I am sure that you could find at the library.

Anyway, the idea is to have them drink, drink, drink lots of liquids so they get a lot of practice with lots of rewards in a short period of time.

I had a friend who used this method with her 4 yr old son and it worked well for her.

My first time potty trainng a child was great.  My ds was potty trained by 2 1/2 without much effort on my part.  DD was another story.  She never showed interest in the potty, never complained about being wet (we cloth diaper) and just never went on the potty.  I did finally bribe her with princess panties to give potty training a shot but after having to wash all her underware (3 packs) in one day I gave up.  I kept trying on and off for months.  Every time I thought she had it she would have more accidents.  I didn’t have a problem picking up the mess because I knew soon she would get it and not have accidents, but my dh wasn’t to happy about it.  She went in pull-ups for a while and after she showed some progress with the pull-ups we tried panties again.  She still had accidents.  It took me a while to realize her biggest problem was destractions.  If she was busy with something she wouldn’t go potty.  I finally started making her go every 1 1/2 hrs just to  make sure she didn’t have any accidents.  That was the best thing for her.  After a while I forgot to remind her and she would just go by herself.  She had a few more accidents but then they stopped.  I couldn’t tell you when she got potty trained because it took a couple of days for me to realize she hadn’t had any accidents.

So all that to say maybe wait, but if you think he can be potty trained try having him go at cetain intervals throughout the day.
