I had been using Dover postcard size art prints for picture study. My kids like their own picture to look at and then they place all the pictures we have studied in a notebook. They like to look back a previous artists. Dover seems to have discontinued many of their postcard size prints of different artists. Do any of you use postcard size prints? If so, where are you getting them?
I googled it and found some on zazzle, but they are running about a dollar a print. That ends up being pretty costly when I do 36 prints x 4 kids.
I noticed I got a cool art postcard with my SCM order. If anyone from SCM is around, maybe they have some info on where they found the postcards.
I save images from online and then print out 4×6 prints of them at a photo kiosk. You just need to make sure you download pictures with a good enough resolution.
9 cents per 4×6 prints is possible. I print 8.5×11 prints for $0.14 a copy. I’ve seen the large prints run as much as $1 per though. You definitely have to look around.
Thanks for the info everyone! I did check Dover…they don’t seem to have the cards for many of the artists I would like. They used to have a wide selection. Looks like printing my own will be the best option. I did that last year, but the quality was not great. Maybe I just need to go with a better resolution and take it to a kiosk.
I use the SCM portfolios often, but when I want a different artist I look for images that are at least 2 MP. That is enough to print on 8.5×11. I print from Best Value Copy online. Watch the shipping costs though. Excellent results
Sometimes you can find something third party on Amazon or Ebay. I purchased the 24 Dover postcards of Audubon that are OOP through Amazon this way. I also purchased a pb book of 50 Favorites for Norman Rockwell to cut out selections and frame. Also look for older inexpensive wall calendars. Of course the SCM art portfolios are great if they have your artist.
If SCM had my artist, I would buy from them. 🙂 I like to display a large photo and give my kids the small ones to notebook.
I did go back and look at the Dover postcards on Rainbow Resource. They had 2 or 3 of the six I was looking for. At one time Dover offered more selection of individual artists than they do now. I am piecing the rest together. I bought a couple old calendars off of eBay and found a book of postcards on Amazon for another artist.
Picture study was new to us last year…we all enjoyed it so much!!! It was amazing to me how much the kids learned and how they recognized out works done by those artists when we would run across it in various places. I am really looking forward to this year!
