I recieved my books and I am impressed with all of them, except About Fish: A Guide For Children. It seems too basic for my 3rd grader. It has one line about fish on a white page on the left and a picture of a fish on the right. Then at the end of the book is 4 pages of afterword with more useful information on each fish, which I think should have been included at the bottom of each appropriate page. It is not bad, but more for grades prek – 1. So I am looking for a living book on pond/river fish to replace this one, or add to it, for my 8 yo. Suggestions?
I really liked the Pond book by Gordon Morrison and I also got his Nature in the Neighborhood book. I hesitated because of the reference to evolution, but there were only 2 minor references which I fixed with a little correction tape.
And the illustrations in Whistling Wings are so beautiful! I love the Flower Alphabet Book as a flower identification source.
