This si so important! This has revealed more starkly the perspective this Justice Dept. has on individual freedom to homeschool. It’s disgusting. I will sign the petition and forward it, too.

Here is Glenn Beck telling Sen. Rand Paul, a homeschool supporter, about it and Sen. Paul pledges to help:

    Here’s the link: http://www.glennbeck.com/2013/03/20/sen-rand-paul-talks-immigration-reform-and-his-plan-to-balance-the-budget-in-5-years/

    Here’s the exact portion:

Another issue that is likely to backfire on this administration is their attempt to send a German family seeking political asylum back to German — after they were ruled on favorably in court. Glenn explained this situation, which he discussed yesterday on radio, to Sen. Paul.

“All they were trying to do was homeschool their children in Germany, but there is a law done by the Nazis. It’s an old Adolf Hitler law that was never removed from the book that says you cannot homeschool your kids. They were going to take their kids away. So they moved here to the United States, they did it the right way, and they asked for political asylum,” Glenn explained. “They won in court, and this administration is now arguing in court that homeschooling your children is not a basic human right.”

“Well, you know, I’m a big fan of homeschooling and you’ve just given me an idea,” Sen. Paul responded. “I think maybe we’ll see if we can file an amicus or a friend of the court on their behalf and see if we can get involved with that because one member of my staff back in the Seventies when he was a kid was home schooled and his parents in Kentucky were given a year in prison for homeschooling and while their case was still pending the appeal, we got the law changed in Kentucky. So in the 1970s it was illegal to homeschool and much of America. But we’ve changed those laws. And if the president thinks that homeschooling is something that can keep you out of the country, we’re going to make sure he knows otherwise.”

Also, Micheal Farris had an excellent interview the other day, worth watching. Mr. Farris explains so much. It’s on the HSLDA site, but I linked it here:

    http://www.glennbeck.com/2013/03/18/doj-stands-against-legally-immigrating-german-family-seeking-political-asylum/

The more attention that can be brought upon this the better! Eventually, we ourselves could start feeling the pressure, esp. with Common Core, of our freedom being undermined if they find tehmselves successful against this family with the precedent set by this case.

Also, if you have some extra money to donate specifically to the case to help, then you can donate here, with 100% going to the case. Just make sure you click on the HSLDA tab: http://www.mercuryone.org/

Thank you for bring this here; I have meant o, but have been preoccupied.

Great Rachel, thanks! You are right! If we do not stop this, it will eventually run into our legal rights!

So glad you posted Glenn’s interview w/ Sen. Paul also!

If we don’t do anything, then we are allowing them to win!

I posted about this last week – the Administration’s argument is that there is not a group forcing them to homeschool, so they have no right to do it.  That is nuts.  There is no group forcing me to homeschool, to eat our special diet, to read my scriptures, to pray…you get the idea.  I choose to do those things of my own free will – after studying things out for myself (with a lot of prayer!)

If that is the argument, then all of us are in trouble because that means that the only group that can force you to do something is the government through laws. Sneaky way of taking away individual rights, huh? I guareentee that it will not stop with this one family if we don’t unite – whatever our political persuasion.

Thanks for sharing! My father is a full-blooded German import, and once he retired, he moved back to Germany. He raised us here taking full advantage of the freedoms this country has to offer and yet still tells me I am “ruining the kids” because of our choice to homeschool ~ despite their happiness and successes. He does not miss any opportunity to speak against our choices and so I am very, very familiar with the German bias against homeschooling. Oh well, I know I will never change his mind and honestly do not doubt our choices, we are very happy with our freedoms and our life. I am making it a priority to share this information/links with everyone I know, hopefully the petition will prove to be successful for this family, and ultimately for all of us!!

Thank you! I just signed the petition. Like Monika, I am the child of a full-blooded German import, my mother. She lives here in the states, but never relinquished her German citizenship. All my family is in Germany. They are not rude, but they definitely have a bias against homeschooling. Many years of socialist education has helped shape their views in every area including this one.

I must admit, I can’t sign the petition; I forgot that the site requires an account to sign a petition and there’s no way I’m going to create an account on whitehouse.gov. for this administration.

However, I will pray, send out emails and interviews to those who are unfamiliar with the case, as well as show support to news outlets who bring attention to this. Personally, I think the media should be doing their job and make a stink-that will make a huge difference and I know Farris was on FOX over the weekend (don’t know about the others), so it’s starting to gain traction. It doesn’t mean that this administration will change their mind, but it will know that we are paying attention, and that’s a deterent. One battle at a time (or several battles handled individually since so much is being thrown at us consistently against the Constitution).

Does anyone know how this is being played out in TN where the Romeikes live?

I can also call the White House instead of petitioning online (which it shouldn’t be required to set up an acct!AAGH!), support HSLDA and contact my Senator and Congressman to make sure they know what’s going on at the “Justice” dept. in this case to lend their voices alongside Sen. Paul’s, too. So that’s what I’ll do.

    Keep the heat on ladies!

This family lives in the town right next to mine. I’ve heard very little about it outside the homeschool community and not a great lot even there. I think people are often afraid to get involved for fear they might become a target themselves. Our pastors have sent out pleas for getting involved in this case (all the families in my church homeschool) and we had a time of prayer about it this morning. We need to storm the gates on this one.

Thanks for chiming in, Robin. That’s disappointing to hear from you that there’s not much publicity; though I think they prefer their privacy, I know I would. Glad to hear your pastors are getting involved.

It’s Passover/Easter break for the representatives right now, so things are quiet up there, but we mustn’t let this one fall through the cracks. If anyone sees their reps during this time, it’s a good time to talk to them about it, actually, since they are home for the holiday break.
