So we are transitioning into more independent work with my 12yo and 10yo….this is week one. Can you look this over and tell me if it is too light? Am I missing something? Thanks!!

    Morning –

    Hymn/Scripture/Prayer with family

    Artist study with family

    Individual Bible reading/prayer journal

    Spelling Power

Commonplace book (they choose one passage/week from Bible or ‘Leaves of Gold’)

    Teaching Textbooks math

    Jump In Writing

Our Mother Tongue English – on order, so we will be starting this soon

They are to choose one longer poem and one longer scripture passage per term to memorize on their own

Rosetta Stone French (and 12yo translates from French to English with a reader)

    Lunch – Composer study

    Afternoon:

Evolution- the Grand Experiment – oral or written narration after each chapter

Eventually, they will be doing “Exploring the World of Chemistry”- hopefully reading and doing experiments together

Story of the World 4, plus living book selections (maybe 2-3 books/week)on 1850-modern time period – one written narration per week in history

Independent literature reading in the afternoon. Other than buying or checking out books, my main job at this point is to keep them from reading them too fast!

    Evening – Music practice

Also, they have instrument lessons one day a week and 12yo is taking a sign language class one day per week.

We haven’t yet started any kind of Book of Centuries for the year, yet. I am thinking more of notebooking since our attempts at the BOC have been lackluster, at best.

What do you think? Too much? Too little? Am I missing something? Feels light for my 12yo, but I don’t want it to be overwhelming while she is getting used to being responsible for her own progress.
