I need some help un scheduling for next year. I love the 12 week schedule that a few of you put on here, but to me it all seems so complicated. I need some help on this. Any one have a schedule to show. New to the cm scheduling. We need something to keep us on track.

I have planned my schedule for next year and placed on the calendar. I may tweak now that my husband is changing jobs, but this will give you an idea….

    I had June & July off start August 4 – September 12 (1st 6 weeks)

take a week off Sept. 15-19 this break I can use to catch up on things or just do some last minute summer outdoor things….

September 22 – October 31 (end of 1st term or 12 weeks) I do “report cards”

November3-21 then take a week off for Thanksgiving 24-28th

Dec 1-19 (this is end of 1st 6 weeks of 2nd term)

Dec 22- jan 9th off for Christmas New year holiday

    Jan 12- feb 19 ( end of term 2)

feb 23 – 27 week off to catch up on things and I will make report cards

March 2-May15  we lose momentum if we take breaks during this time and so I stay on a sctrict schedule….

May 18-22 off to catch up and collect things and prepare report cards

May 25-29 last and final week….     HTH

For us this will change because my husband went from self employed to shift work, so I will now do school in hot of summer so we can have more time off in fall and spring to be outdoors….

I’m in the middle of using the SCM planning guide (Planning your CM education by Sonya).  It is a great help to me – I usually get all bogged down and start thinking in circles.  I’m excited to see how it all looks when I’m done!  I think I’d like to try the 3 Term thing for next year, also.

Our problem is that we try to do school everyday and then life happesn and we take a day off and then another day, etc.  And it seems like we’re always doing school but we’re always behind.  I’m just not good at not allowing things to interrupt us, I guess.

I so get what you are saying Karen! I am the same way. I also work, but my Mother is a big part of our Homeschool. I try to send them with things and have good intentions, but like you say life happens and things fall behind. I really like all the examples of schedules. I think that will really help us out.

We school year round so there is never any worry about taking too much time off because we’re schooling too much as it is.  I switched this year from five 9 week terms (insane that I ever did that much juggling and planning) to the more standard three terms of 14 weeks.  Still gives us more days than we need officially for schooling (180 in most states) … so those unplanned days off don’t bug me!  I look at this for a while and start crunching numbers and then when I’m feeling nuts – I quit!  I know that the terms are more for my planning (switching materials, etc) than for anything else really.

Our year this year looks like this –

    • Term 1 – April 14-July 31 (we will take July 4, May 4 and others off)
    • Term 2 – September 1-December 19 (we will take a week at Thanksgiving to travel, Christmas for a few weeks, others too)
    • Term 3 – January 5-April 30 (we will take weeks for Mardi Gras and Easter/Spring Break, others when the sun shines brightly)

I tend to have the wackiest plans and schedules on here!  Oh well, I admire the other more organized CMers but this works for my brain so I go with it.  It works around baseball season, my husbands times off from public schools, my parents plans, etc.  Laughing

I plan three terms each consisting of 12 weeks of work (3 months) and give us 16 weeks (4 months) to complete it. If we fall behind that, then we need to reevaluate our priorities. My kids’ education is a top priority, so all other possibilities and opportunities come after that. I’m not speaking of family crises, but the rest has to go if it interferes with our homeschool routine.

See samples on my little blog – http://www.learningwithcharlotte.blogspot.com

True words.  Canning season, VBS planning season, sewing clothes for the kids – all of that stops the family subjects in our house.  The math keeps going.  Sometimes, when I can keep my wits about me, the family subjects keep going, and the math lessons get shortened.
