    @ Christie,

Those are exactly my thoughts.  We enjoy the CM method and while I believe and trust in the method, I know we need to add the specific study skills for things like science.  Thank you for that perspective and for the link.

I think Bookworm Michelle has suggested some study skills type books here before, but I have to search out that post.  The link I shared before has some good information specific to science.  I’ll share the others when I find it. I may have it saved in my Amazon wish list, too.

One book Michelle recommended was How to Become a Straight A Student by Cal Newport.

How to Read a Book by Mortimer Adler has been mentioned before as well. There used to be a study guide/workbook for homeschoolers but I can’t find it now!

I’m interested to hear of others.

I have the book How to Become a Staight-A Student by Cal Newport (I think recommended by Michelle/Bookworm). It has some great ideas that my son is using.

I don’t remember what else has been suggested, but I did get this one right away when it was posted.

So, with consideration to the history rotation, we have covered the SCM modules exactly as laid out to now….  as I mentioned.  I was thinking of beginning the rotation again next school year and just following that scope and sequence, only using something Truthquest.    What have y’all done?  If we start the rotation again, we will be in modern times by the time he reaches his final year with us.  We don’t plan on graduating him early.  I’m fine with this but, I guess I’m wondering besides requirements for college is there another way to go about this?  Maybe getting more of his input as to what he would like to study?

    Thinking out loud….

Thank you to everyone who has offered up your experience and advice,

Monica, there are many good options.  First make sure you know your state and possibly college requirements and go from there.  You could repeat the SCM modules with books for the older grades (this is how it was intended), make your own booklist using truthquest, ao, cmh, your own thing, or any combination.  Honestly, anything you choose will be richer and more depth than the ps education many of us had.

I’ve used all of the SCM modules as framework for our studies while pulling from the others through last school year. This year,  I did my own thing and added Beautiful Feet to it. Next year, dd14 will use EpiKardia American History 1 because I want the helps provided within – period overviews that are short and to the point, narration and project assignments, rubrics for evaluation. Ds11 will likely use Beautiful Feet’s new US/World study or possibly EpiKardia Prepatory or a mix. Dd7 will either use EK Intermediate or maybe BF History of the Horse and Geography studies. Ds5 will be read to and will continue some gentle reading instruction that we’ve just begun, he will also have lots of play time. I just wanted something different and didn’t want to put it all together myself.

I love planning and research, but I’m tired and need a break from it. I also will personally benefit from an overview year which we have never done.

    best wishes as you decide

Thank you, Christie.  Those are great ideas.  Sometimes I just like to hear from others as new ideas are good for thought.
