I’m thinking on Echo, who will turn 8 in January and would be in “Grade 2 or 3” (depending on whether we lived here or a mile away – we will be reporting Grade 3)  She also seems to have mixed dominance, and possibly stealth dyslexia.  Her reading is at a high grade 2 or low grade 3 level, but I see a few things that seems wierd (skipped words… being able to read big long words but struggling with really simple basic ones…).  Her handwriting (because of the mixed dominance) needs a lot of work, and has always been a struggle.

Overall – AO Year 2 (with my Canadian modifications) –  trying to decide if I am going to expect all 3 terms or not…  She will be using audiobooks.

Math: Finish RightStart Level C  (we are over 1/2 way through.  Maybe start Level D, depending on how things go.  (I hope so…)

Writing/Handwriting – Figure 8 exercises to try to help with the mixed dominance.  Then start working through the alphabet again… sigh.

Spelling – All About Spelling – Finish Level 1, start Level 2.  (I started her with AAS when I started Delta)

Reading Help – hoping AAS will help.  Not sure what else to do at this point… might see if the Reading Reflex has suggestions for her….

Science – just the AO readings for science and nature study.

Foreign Language – ASL – We’ve been using the Signing Time Videos – they are just longer than I’d like, and I’d like to get into more actual language – the lifeprint site is all I really have….

Foreign Language – German – I don’t know what to do for this.  (same as Delta….) – or switch to French???

    Physed – Swimming lessons

Music – work on Violin again…..

I think that is about it…  suggestions?  Does it sound reasonable?

Also Considering Foxtrot, who is/will be 5 and has finished 100EZ lessons and Rightstart Level A already.

Should I be doing more with her reading skills, or just move right into reading books?  She has read books like “Make Way for Ducklings” to me without a lot of help….

    General thoughts….

I don’t want to make her 0.5 year too much (I think the year 0.5 I did with Echo is probably too much….)

Reading – books like Raggedy Ann, possibly changing the type of book now and then  (say, Among the _____ people, etc – I’ll be looking in my Yesterday’s Classics!).

Writing – start Italics  (deciding between Penny Gardner, which I own, and doing my own…..)

    Math – RightStart Level B

    Physed – Swim Lessons

ASL – watch Signing Time when she wants to.

    Foxtrot sounds okay to me.

My advice about Echo and the foriegn language is the same I mentioned in Delta’s. Use the Lifeprint, divide the lessons up (easy on the computer) and print the book and the practice cards.
