I just discoverd Pinterest and I’m curious to see what other CM moms have posted on their boards, particularly the art, handicrafts, outdoor and homeschool pins. Would you mind sharing your board? You can find me at http://pinterest.com/christineawood/
I know very little about Pinterest. Is it just another overwhelming Facebook-type of site? Am I likely to fret over spending even more time online with this? Or is it uncomplicated and helpful?
Please tell me more about it! (I know, I’m being lazy….I could just go there and check it out myself, but I like personal user input on these things.)
Sue, pinterest is almost a bookmarking site – when you are browsing around online and see a picture that intrigues you, you can “pin” it through a little button that you load on your browser – a pinmarklet, I think they call it. Anyway, the picture will give you a reminder of the thing you liked and will link back to it. The cool part is that your pins get fed into the pin stream, as it were, and others can be inspired by the things you took note of, and you can do the same. You can follow the pins of people with like interests and you will find more things you like.
I like it more the more I use it. I tend to read blogs like “One Pretty Thing” that aggregate content for me so I can do the thing I like (drool over craft projects LOL) but not waste so much time surfing craft blogs. Pinterest is like a ramped up version of that. I am now developing some pinterest boards to link to from my small farm site – I am doing a “for the winter garden” board that I hope my customers who are on pinterest will want to follow, and I can do more for each season as they come. I can do veggie recipe boards, too, and link to them from my blog. Anyway, I think Pinterest is a good thing – but it can become a time waster like anything online if you do not manage yourself!
I think it could be a neat way to organize links I want to remember for different studies, however, I’m not on Facebook so I can’t get access to Pinterest. Unless someone knows another way to get a Pinterest account?
Tristan you have to request an invite or I can send you one (much quicker than requesting one which can take up to two weeks) PM me your email if you want me to send you an invite
I’m still confused….I read somewhere on their help page that once you’ve received an invite, you have to register via Facebook Connect or connect through Twitter. So, you still have to be on Facebook or Twitter, right?
I guess I don’t remember the specifics of signing up – I know that I had to “request an invite” and then I got a link in an email – just to see what would happen I logged out and then logged back in and I saw three prompts – log in with facebook, log in with twitter, log in with pinterest account. I logged in with pinterest account, so I must not have originally logged in with fb or twitter? I can’t imagine that I did because I NEVER log in with fb to anything. Maybe twitter. But I did link to my fb acct on pinterest and then my fb friends also on pinterest popped up and now we follow each other, so that was kind of convenient.
If you had to do one or the other, twitter is by far the better choice LOL as it is totally inconsequential if you make a twitter account. You don’t have to use your real name but you should use an email you can check if you need to.
I <3 Pinterest! (sometimes…too much) It is a time waster, so I make sure to get on it in the evenings when everyone is asleep. I use it as my ‘mommy time’… with that being said. I have ‘followed’ you ladies, if that is ok. http://pinterest.com/lovemykwpilot/ <– that is me…. Thanks! I can’t wait to see the neat-o things you discover and share. I am a fairly new hsing mom and a brand new SCM mom. Any and ALL advice is welcome. Also.. my FB acct is.. Leah Perkins …please find me and add me. I would love the encouragement and advice. -Leah
