I’m going to try this again, I got a very strange message the last time I posted. What are your all time favorite Christian picture books?

Cindy, I can’t wait to hear the responses to this because I absolutely LOVE childrens Chrisitian picture books. 🙂 Here are some of my favorites…..
“The Squire and the Scroll”
“The Princess Kiss” by Jennie Bishop
“With you all the Way” by Max Lucado (This is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES!)
“Because I love you” by Max Lucado
“Just the way you are” by Max Lucado
“Let Me Hold You Longer” by Karen Kingsbury (I cried my eyes out after reading this one)
“A Parable about the King” by Beth Moore (This is another one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES and one that I had to have on our book shelf)
“Hinds Feet on High Places; delightfully illustrated and arranged for children” by Hannah Hurnard (This is also a devotional with very deep spiritual truths – more for girls & also one of my favs)
Cindy, what are your favorite Christian picture books – I know you must have some? 😉

The True Story of Noah’s Ark by Tom Dooley
At Christmas we love a Little Golden Book, I think it’s called The Animals Christmas Eve…I don’t remember the author though (we pack our Christmas books away).
I’m hoping some other moms chime in. As I tried to think of a few to post, I realized we don’t have (and haven’t really read) many “Christian” picture books.

OK I think I need to beef up my picture book library..I only have a few of the above titles you guys have mentioned. I guess I am behind in the picture book department 😀

Thank you! Now I just need to select the ones to purchase! I was just looking around and I see that our book collection has diminished tremendously…not sure why. Probably because I bought, bought, bought, when the older ones were younger and then did not maintain the collection. Plus, I get tired of reading some stuff and when it’s time to get rid of things…out it goes. That would be a tip for you young moms – pack it away don’t give it away.
As for my favorites, Heather, I like Ravi Zachariah’s (sp?) children’s books, The True Princess, anything that is being published by Lamplighter as picture books (Teddy’s Button is a delight!), Wisdom for Little Girls (not 100% sure of this title). I don’t have a lot of favorites because so many seem corny (oops, that would be ‘twaddle’ in cm language 😉 ).Well, thank you, ladies; you’ve been a big help and I think these lists will be wonderful to browse through. Now I’m ready to go shopping!

OOOOOhhhhh, I almost forgot about the illustrated version of Teddys Button! We got it from the library a couple months back and I was determined that I must own a copy of that one too. 😉 Its still on my wish list.
Also, how could I have forgotten about The True Story of Noahs Ark by Tom Dooley? This is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL book and one I would be willing to save for my grandkids 😉 .
You’re right, Cindy, so many of the childrens picture books seem corny (twaddle-ish) thats why, when we come across a really good one – its usually a buyer & a keeper!

I forgot to mention One Wintry Night by Ruth Bell Graham, a fantastic story with beautiful illustrations.
I’m curious how y’all would categorize christian “twaddle”? I tend to think of those books that are based on television (such as Veggie Tales) or are quite shallow in their overall message (so shallow even unbelievers embrace the merely “feel-good” messages). Is that what some of you would view as corny/twaddle or are there other criteria as well? I might look at the illustrations of some christian books and be initially skeptical (such as the books by Liz Curtis Higgs, they look a bit cartoonish) but after reading them I have been moved to tears! What do you think?

Veggie Tales, right. Poor Queen Esther will forever be an onion in my mind after that video. I also do not like books that illustrate the great heroes of the faith as children (like Precious Moments). Some of them are just hard to read. As Michele said some time ago, if it’s a book I would want to read again, it’s probably not twaddle.
