  • I know Emily is already working on the next three artists so there is probably not much room for suggestions……and I know you haven’t asked :o) but I would love to see some of the year 1 artists offered, Larrson, Parrish, Cassatt, etc.

I really appreciate the portfolios that are available already and think they are beautiful and I get that it is OK and even desirable to expose the kids to fine art outside of our normal comfort zone, but it could also be nice to have a “lighter” (in theme and color) artist for those of us just starting out in picture study with little ones……

Or maybe I just need to dive in and not over think it :o)

    Thanks Emily and SCM Team!

I completely agree. I am happily awaiting the Giotto picture portfolio yet I would love some of those artists you recommened, Ladyofthehouse, to be made available as well.

Keep up the good work SCM!

I just turned a friend onto your site and she loves it, too. Yeah!

I agree – something lighter for the beginner and young children.

Also, speaking of Carl Larsson, I had already gathered some of his prints for our first study. Has anyone found any good bio info on him that they would recommend?

I am also planning on using Carl Larsson for one of our picture studies next school year. I am going to be using one of the art print books that are recommended in the bookfinder but I am still looking for good biographical children’s books on him. There doesn’t seem to be a lot out there! If you do find something, please let me know!

I don’t know if it could be ready in time anyway, but on the off chance that it was…I would REALLY love a picture portfolio on Carl Larsson! ; )

Just a word to the wise: I found Larsson’s autobiography and was quite disappointed to find that he struggled with depression and bitterness a lot. So you may want to avoid that particular book. It’s sad, really, considering the lovely scenes that he portrayed.

That is sad. I have an aunt who has suffered and struggled with depression throughout her life. She is also a very creative person who can create beautiful crafts and paint lovely images in her home. Perhaps the lovely scenes he created were an attempt to combat his depressions? You certainly don’t get a feeling that he was drepessed from his paintings, by any means. It certainly goes to show that people have many, many sides to them and what you “think” about a person is probably not the complete truth.

Thank you for the heads up, Sonya.
