I have a DS who turns 4 in March. He is very high energy. We live in an apartment in the French Alps and winter is upon us. I am looking for ways to provide him with ample physical activity. How do you all do it especially in winter?

    TIA!

    A mini trampoline.

Obstacle courses with pillows, chairs, and lines of painter’s tape on the floor.

Bundle up and go outside anyway for short walks.

I have to admit… we went with a Wii… we have Wii Sports which is pretty good – and my kids LOVE Wii Active Life Explorer, and that is a real energy user!

We have a Wii too, my dad brought it over one day – a big shock as he doesn’t call, visit, or return calls (as in he’s not called me back in over 7 months and only knows I’m pregnant because other family members told him). Anyway, we have some active games (Wii Sport Resort is a favorite here) but generally we only allow video games once a week. In the winter we may have to change that if we get stuck in the house with really bad weather and allow an active Wii game – thanks for the reminder!

Thanks! We’ll look into a Wii. That may be a good fit for us. 🙂

I think I mentioned this on another post, but we dance to the Go Fish Guys (http://www.gofishguys.com)  – very fun! Our girls (7 and 4) do chores with gusto – not necessarily with a great attitude most of the time, but I do encourage them to burn off some energy going up and down our two flights of stairs. We also go sledding and x-country skiing often, or just for a hike. They build snow forts and snow people, and we cleaned out the garage so they can rollerblade and use the scooter. Plus we take iceskating lessons once a week and try to hit the pool once a week as well, in the winter anyway. In the summer we hike, hunt, camp, and fish.
