    Hi!  As I plan for the coming year, I am considering which approach to spelling will most help my ds13.  He is not a natural speller and does not retain words previously studied very well.  Have any of you used Phonetic Zoo?  And, do you have any feedback for me on this?

    We used it for a short time, ds was 13 also at the time. He felt it a bit babyish with the zoo animal cards. I probably did not give it a solid chance since he was resistant from the start. He also is a very poor speller and doesnt retain words or even pay much attention to them when he reads. It did not work for us just because he thought it was too young for him, even though he was doing the harder words. Sequential Spelling is very similar, minus the spelling rules and zoo cards. He did pretty well with that. Although the most success we have had has been with Spelling Wisdom, although it requires time to see the results and its a bit scary to trust the method. He has improved greatly in the two years we have been using it. Even with me using it “wrong”.

    We used it last year for my horrendous speller and it worked well. I think it’s a great program.
