I am looking for more readers for my 7 year old. She currently is reading a 1941 copy of “Susannah the Pioneer Cow ” and is loving it. She actually asked if it was ok to read -a-loud  2 more pages this morning. 🙂  Her narration skills have greatly improved since we started this book.  She seems to really latch on to the older , simpler way of life stories.  That said , I am curious about the Amish style Pathway readers and early 1900’s McRuffy readers.  I understand that the McRuffy does include some writing and grammar . I am wondering if that portion can be skipped over and just enjoy the stories?? Any thoughts? Other book suggestions that would fit what we are looking for ?? Thx so much !! Jamie

I definitely recommend the Pathway Readers.  They are wonderful stories, great morals, great examples of parenting, simple lifestyles and children learning how to be the best they can be.  Also lots of stories about animals.  I see these are excellent for both boys and girls.  My boys are 9yo and are finishing up the 3rd grade readers.  I plan to buy the 4th grade reader for next year – I really love them!

And I’m so glad to hear that Susannah is a great book bc we’ll be reading that one in the next few weeks!

    Best,
