Hi all! We will be starting Trail Guides to Learning-Paths of Exploration in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if anyone else has experience with it. It looks (and is supposed to be) very CM friendly. Just thought I’d ask! 🙂

Yes!!!! My 4th grader is currently in the 4th unit of POE. It is the best program I have found so far for us. You can literally just add math and be good to go unless your student is advanced and then there is the upper level add ons available for older students.

-I like that it only has 2 books you are reading for a unit (1 reader and 1 read aloud).

-I like that it spends 6 weeks on a topic instead of flying through the different events. I can now remember that Jamestown was before the Pilgrims.

-I like that there are differing levels to choose the work from and that you can mix levels if you want. It would also be really easy to take things deeper by adding extra books or writing assignments.

-I love that it is pretty much open and go!

-I like that it is easy to tweak, if desired. We do a lot of the work orally.

Thank you for your help! The things you mentioned are what drew me to it (we are starting 3rd grade). Now that we’re about to start I’m worried about being able to add things like picture study, nature study, poetry/other books, French, knitting, etc. I know it has many fun projects but did you find you still had time to follow your other areas of interest?

You should have time. I’ve never timed it but POE maybe takes us an hour.

Wow, that’s fabulous! I was thinking 2-3 hours. Thank you for the information! 🙂

How long will depend on how in depth you want to go. As my dd gets older it will take longer.

Sheesh – I just looked at this and it looks GREAT, but is it $160 for just the guide? and notebooking pages?

I paid $150 for the year’s guide which includes the student pages CD. Well worth the money considering you are getting all subjects except for math.

I paid $100 on Amazon for both guides 1 & 2 together with the cd, and have been buying the reading books as I see them at a good price on Amazon. It’s been a huge savings!

If someone buys used, you will want to buy the student pages from the company as those are only licensed to the original purchaser (even if the CD is sent with the used guide).

You can also buy the units separately on the Geography Matters website if you want to try it out before you buy the whole thing.
